How can a business be “social”?

One of the biggest challenges when building a business is trying to figure out how to interact or be “social” with followers on social media. Down below we’ll give few ideas on how you can engage socially online.

Ask Questions

Whether you’re on social media or offline, asking “What do you think?” is a simple and effective strategy to jumpstarting a conversation. People love to express their thoughts and opinions, so ask them questions! For example, let’s say you own a bakery. You can ask your followers on social media for opinions on their favorite sweets, or even ask for feedback on a new recipe you recently added to your menu.

Engage with Followers

The rules of engagement for social media are quite different compared to other forms of communication. Emojis, GIFs, pictures, and videos are common and effective ways to communicate and interact with your audience. If you want to engage with your follows, you’ll need to meet them where they are, which might mean using a heart emoji or two.

Respond to Reviews or Concerns

At some point or another a customer will likely write a review about your business, or even raise some concerns directly on your social media accounts. Responding to reviews and questions is an important way to establish your legitimacy as a business and show that you genuinely value their feedback, good or bad.

While being social as a business requires time and energy, it’s important to engage with people online as much as possible.
