Using Camel Case in Hashtags
What is CamelCase? In case you haven't heard of it before, CamelCase is a way to create hashtags for people with vision impairments. Using CamelCase allows screen reading software to read the hashtags as actual words instead of garble. In this post, we’ll go over how and why you should use CamelCase in your social media posts.
How to Use CamelCase
CamelCase is very easy to use. All you need to do is capitalize the first letter in each word when writing a hashtag or a callout on social media, your blog, or wherever you use hashtags. If you are still not sure how to write in Camel Case, here are a couple examples:

Why You Should Use CamelCase
Using CamelCase is a great way to:
Increase the readability of hashtags
Allow screen readers to read hashtags properly since the software recognizes and can pronounce individuals words
Help show potential customers that you care about accessibility
Increase the reach of your business
Besides the reasons listed above, using CamelCase also helps you comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). As long as it does not cause an undue burden to your business and your business is considered a place of public accommodation, you are required under ADA to provide reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities. CamelCase is a cost-free way to comply with ADA’s requirements so that people with disabilities have equal access to any goods, services, and so forth that your business provides.
Using CamelCase is a simple way to increase accessibility for people with visual impairments or disabilities. While My Social Lady cannot provide legal advice and strongly recommends contacting a legal expert on ADA compliance, we can provide you with tools and tips to create more accessible social media content for your business.
