Do you need a Social Media break?

Social media has become such a huge part of our lives, it's hard to imagine a world without it. The ideas we get from the creativity of others is inspiring, the laughter is healing, and the information you receive is enlightening. But there can be too much of a good thing. All things are good in certain quantities, and even social media can be overwhelming and impact your mental health.

Here are a few ways for you to take care of your mental health while enjoying a break from social media:

Get Artistic

You don't have to be an artist to make art. Just grab a few things from the nearby store and play some music. Sit in front of your favorite scenery, bring a bottle of water, or your favorite coffee, and just spread the paint, or lead, on the paper. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece, just a different form of stimulation for your mind. Maybe you can even try that one painting or sketch you saw on tiktok! What did they use again? A power drill?

Take a Walk

Did you know that walking at a fast pace is super healthy for your body? More doctors recommend brisk walks to keep your heart pumping and keep your body in motion. Spend 30 minutes to an hour outside and take in the scenery around you. Pay attention to the things you see, hear, smell, and feel. The wind in your hair, the smell of fresh cut grass, the sound of kids playing… whatever you experience - take it all in!

Read a Book

Whether it is picking up an old favorite, or finally opening up the one you have been meaning to start for weeks. It’s good for the mind; and some say for the soul. A few of our favorites are Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis or 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey or get lost in a good romance novel from Dorothea Betnon Frank.

Dance

No seriously, dance. Is it your day off? Play a favorite song, new or old, and just move your body around and enjoy the music. No one can see you, so why not dance like nobody's watching? Or invite a friend, make up choreography. It doesn't matter, just get on your feet and move your body! Did you know; the grove is in the heart?

Have a snack

Do you know how many people lose time on platforms like TikTok, Pinterest, and Instagram. It happens to EVERYONE on social media. So put your phone down and step into your kitchen to make your favorite snack and grab a glass of water while you are at it.

Fueling your body and mind start in the kitchen - make it count. Veggies dipped in hummus, low cal popcorn, a handful of nuts, or an energy bar - all good choices!

Your Mental Health Matters

We love social media, but don't forget that there are other fun and worthwhile activities in the world. But when you’re done, you can tell everyone about it once you’re back online. Your mental health will thank you for the work that you put in to take a break and reconnect with the real world.
