Tips for Online Networking

It has never been a better time to Network online then now. There is so much more connection online than there ever has been…ever. Are you networking online? Because you should be! 

Let’s go over some Online Networking Do’s and Don’ts. 

The Do’s. 

1.    Make Communication Personal – no one wants to talk to a robot! Be real, have conversations, and let them know that you aren’t just interested in business. 

2.    Professional Profile – no one wants to pass along information that doesn’t look professional. It says something about the messenger if they are suggesting something that looks messy! Be sure your profiles are neat, clean cut, and beautiful. 

3.    Well Rounded Network – no one is too good or not good enough to reach out to. Be sure to expand your communication as far as you can. You never know who knows a person, who knows a person, who knows you, and you have what they need! 

The Don’ts

1.    Only networking ‘when you need it’ – you always need to network. Don’t let anyone forget about you. If you’re not diligent, someone else is going to swoop in and take what could have been yours! 

2.    Connecting with someone to only ask for a favor – networking a lot of the time is about give and take. So, don’t be the person that only wants to take. Be a team player and be someone that everyone wants to work with and help out! 

3.    No Follow Up – don’t be lazy. Call them, send them that 5th email. Maybe they are just super busy and keep meaning to reach out. Be that reminder!
