Mindfulness as an Entrepreneur

It is no secret that becoming an entrepreneur, pursuing your dreams and exercising your passion takes a lot of work, and can take a lot of time. As we just celebrated our third year with Social Media Squared, we are no stranger to the successes and failures of being an entrepreneur. To help you with that middle ground, to pull out and learn from the failures, and to achieve those successes - here are some tips to putting yourself first, and making mindful decisions for you, your mind and body, and your business as an entrepreneur.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Of course, we are going to Google something first, but we feel it is important to have some amazing entrepreneur friends that you can ask advice from, ask for a co-working session, or just ask them to listen. And of course, we love community over competition, so if they’re in the same realm, even better. There is a very high chance that they know exactly what you’re going through.

What are you putting into your body? Look at your diet, water intake and supplements that you were taking. It’s important to consider how you are fueling your body & brain. Sometimes, it is necessary to look into something that can help you with stress, relax, or even something to help you think more clearly. We would be fibbing if we said that we had not done a Google search to find foods that help brain power, and how many cups of coffee in one day is advised. ;)

First and foremost, take care of yourself. Consider how many hours of sleep you need to function at 100%, at 90%, and so on. Some nights, we can pull all nighter‘s - but we don’t want to do that every night. Look at your relationships; we love that our significant others and families are flexible with our choices - but they are important and deserve our time too. Plus, your brain will be grateful for a break! Lastly, know your release - whether that’s a quick run, a yoga session, or even vegging with your favorite episodes of “The Office.” Recognize what allows you to shut off your brain, so that you can take a well-deserved break from going at 100 mph.

While it is good to know how to shut off your brain, it’s important to know how to flip the switch to ‘on’ for your brain. For us, creating content at all times can be draining; making how to get your creative juices flowing again so important. Whether that be a specific activity or just taking a break - know what gets your gears moving. Along with that, it’s also important to give yourself some grace, in case you do just need a break, in order to come back and perform at your best.
